Hours and time cards
Add up hours and minutes, find how long a shift ran, and total a week of time cards with unpaid breaks taken out.
Which calculator do I need?
Use the hours calculator for one shift: a start time, an end time and a break. Use the time card calculator for a whole week, with pay and overtime. Use the time calculator to add or subtract lengths of time, such as 1:45 plus 2:30.
All three give answers in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, the format most payroll systems use.
Common questions
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.
Is my lunch break counted as hours worked?
Under federal law, a meal break of about 30 minutes or more is unpaid if you are fully relieved of duty. Short rest breaks of 20 minutes or less count as work time.
